School
Groups
Nothing can
match the excitement of
being near live birds to grab a student’s attention and
create
teachable moments. Birds of prey can be easily used to meet a variety
of state science standards
and
teachers can arrange with the Bird of Prey Center education staff for
the program to focus on their curriculum needs.
Classroom Visits
The Bird of
Prey Center education staff
can bring birds of prey directly to your school for an exciting and
informative education program. Students can observe birds of prey
up-close as the Birds of Prey educators use inquiry methods and
hands-on objects to provide students with an interactive educational
experience. The programs also typically include a flying
demonstration, allowing students to observe flight behaviors first
hand.
Programs
can be
arranged to occur in a
classroom or larger auditorium for 30 to 90 minutes. The Bird of Prey
Center education staff can also be scheduled to conduct more than one
program during their visit to your school. Cost for classroom visits
is $4.00 per participant, with a $200 minimum.
On-site Visits
Teachers can
arrange to bring their
class to the Center for Birds of Prey for a tour and
flight demonstration with the Birds of Prey educators. During the
tour, students can see birds of prey from all over the world as the
education staff uses inquiry methods to provide students with an
interactive educational experience. The students are then brought to
the Center’s flying fields for a flight demonstration with
live
raptors in which the students can observe flight behaviors of a
variety of birds of prey, including owls, falcons and eagles.
Programs can be
arranged for 1 to 2
hours. The Center is located off of Rte 17 in Awendaw, South
Carolina, just outside of Mt. Pleasant. Cost for on-site visits is
$5.00 per participant, with a $200 minimum.
